Mother’s Day Floral Guide: Flowers & Their Meanings

As we celebrate the special women in our lives, flowers are a thoughtful way to show appreciation:

At The London Flower Shop, we’ve put together a guide to help you choose the perfect flowers for your mum. Here are are a few of our favourites:

ROSES

1. Pink Roses: The classic choice and one every mother expects. They symbolise appreciation, gratitude and love.

2. Lavender Roses: The golden way to say “I admire you and I’m grateful for all you’ve done for me mum”. For a bouquet, we recommend lavender roses with peach roses. It pairs the love and admiration of lavender roses with the warmth and appreciation of peach roses.

3. White Roses: The purity, innocence and unconditional love of a mother are best said through white roses. When paired with pink roses, it combines the appreciation and gratitude of pink roses with the unconditional and innocence of a mother’s love. If you want to add “everlasting love” to the mix, add Baby’s Breathe to the White and Pink Roses bouquet.

TULIPS

1. Red Tulips: They represent perfect love. Pairing this with daffodils creates a beautiful and symbolic bouquet to mean new beginnings and a renewal of love between a mother and child

2. Pink Tulips: The best way to show appreciation, gratitude and a bond. Combining Pink Tulips with Roses is an infamous way to show love, deep appreciation, new beginnings and connection.

3. Yellow Tulips: Happiness, Sunshine and Hope. With Yellow Tulips you can now say “you bring joy and brightness to my world mum” in a bouquet. Mix with daffodils to show a renewal of love.

PEONIES

Also known as the “Queen of Flowers”, they are an excellent choice for Mother’s Day bouquet and arrangements.

1. Pink Peonies: “You are my good fortune”. That’s what Pink Peonies say. They symbolise gratitude for support and guidance, admiration of beauty and elegance and love.

2. Corals and Salmons: Appreciation, gratitude and friendship. An elegant mix would be combining it with Roses, Greenery or Carnations to add more depth and texture to the bouquet:

3. Red Peonies & White Peonies: Pairing these two Peonies signify a mother’s nurturing and caring side (white peonies) while the red peonies represent her strength, passion and dedication.

In the language of flowers, every bloom has a story to tell. This Mother’s Day, tell a story that speaks directly to her heart.
